In the early 60’s, Flanders and Swann (more famous for the Hippopotamus Song) sang a song titled the ‘Wompom’. It is about a plant that has to be the ultimate in renewable resources. Here is one of the verses.
You
can shave with the rind of a Wompom,
And
it acts like a soapless shampoo.
And
its root in little doses
Keeps
you free from halitosis
Oh,
there's nothing that a Wompom cannot do,
Nothing
that a Wompom cannot do,
Nothing
that a Wompom cannot do.
They go on to suggest the Wompom, provides "streets full of houses to the buttons on your trousies, with the Wompom we have everything we need".
Sadly, however, this plant is only fictitious, but we liked the idea of this all-providing plant. Follow this link if you would like to see the complete words to the song:www.nyanko.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/fas/bestiary_wompom.html
In trying to make our products as much as possible from recycled or renewable materials (and therefore more sustainable), Wompom seemed an appropriate name.
